The Bombay high court on Thursday ordered for the 20-acre land in suburban Goregaon, where Subhash Ghai's film institute Whistling Woods is located, to be handed over to the Maharashtra government. The HC has also restrained Whistling Woods from granting admissions to students for courses which will go beyond 2014. The court was hearing a public interest litigation filed by Rajendra Sontakke and four other agriculturists from Latur and Osmanabad districts.

Parliamentary Standing Committee on Law and Justice has made a suggestion for protecting whistle-blowers from the dreaded contempt law, till inquiry into such charges, as part of an effort to ensure accountability of judges. The proposal has been mooted for inclusion in the Judges (Inquiry) Bill 2006 which is expected to be introduced in Parliament shortly.
