Sohail Mohammed has become New Jersey's first Indian-American and second Muslim judge. Mohammed, 47, was sworn-in at the Passaic County Superior Court, where he will be serving as a judge. "I could barely believe that I was in the same place to take oath as a judge where I had come in the 1980s for taking my citizenship oath, once to perform jury duty and later to take oath as an attorney. It was so gratifying," he said.

An Indian-American pharmacy owner in Trenton, New Jersey, was shot dead allegedly by a teenager after he refused to give a medicine to the boy without a valid prescription. Arjun Reddy Dyapa, 52, owner of Brunswick Avenue Pharmacy in Broad Street, was shot in the chest and brought dead.Eye witnesses said a teenage African-American with dreadlocks showed up at the counter and demanded a medicine without producing a valid prescription issued by a physician.

Five juveniles, who were initially arrested and charged following the death of computer scientist Divyendu Sinha of Old Bridge, New Jersey on June 28, were on Friday accused of Sinha's murder. The court also granted the prosecutor's request that they be tried as adults.Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J Kaplan announced that the five juveniles would be tried as adult defendants. The Indian American community has been demanding the same since Sinha's murder.
