Expelled All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader V K Sasikala was set free on Wednesday by authorities after she completed four years imprisonment in a jail here in a case of disproportionate assets, setting off celebrations by her supporters in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
The bypoll was necessitated following the demise of J Jayalalitha.
A day after the Special Court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against him, T T V Dinakaran, one of the accused in the Rs 66.65 crore disproportionate assets case filed against Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa and others, on Wednesday surrendered.
The warrant was issued following Dinakaran's failure to appear before the court in compliance with the July 2 summons.
Judge A S Pachhapure adjourned the hearing after the counsel for the accused filed an application requesting the court to exempt Jayalalithaa, Sashikala Natarajan, Elavarsi and T T V Dinakaran from personnel appearance.
They were distributing pamphlets which allegedly containing defamatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami.
Judge A S Pachhapure also issued notices to Sashikala Natarajan, V N Sudhakaran and J Ilavarasi in the Rs 66.65 crore asset case.
The Delhi high court, on March 9, allowed Dinakaran's plea for allotment of a common symbol, preferably 'pressure cooker', and a name of his choice for the AIADMK faction led by him.
