The Bombay High Court granted bail to a lesbian couple, arrested for allegedly kidnapping a five-year-old girl, noting that at worst it can be said they undertook an illegal approach to fulfill their desire to have a child. The court acknowledged the couple's desire to have a child and their inability to do so biologically, stating that they would now also be unable to adopt a minor child. The couple had been in jail for eight months. The FIR against the couple was registered in March this year on a complaint by the child's parents in suburban Mumbai. The Bombay High Court has refused to release Mihir Shah, the main accused in a BMW hit-and-run case, on the grounds of "illegal" arrest. Shah, the son of a former Shiv Sena leader, and his driver had filed petitions in the HC claiming they have been illegally detained. The court dismissed the petitions, stating that the police had not informed them the grounds of their arrest at the time, which was in violation of the law.
