A BSF patrolling party observed some movement in forward area of Garkhal, 30 km from Jammu, in Pargwal belt around 0400 hours and challenged the infiltrating terrorists, police said. The terrorists opened fire and the BSF troops fired back. The exchange of gunfire continued for half an hour following which the terrorists fled back, they said.

A defence spokesperson told rediff.com that a group of infiltrators had made an attempt to sneak into Indian territory."The infiltrators were spotted and challenged. They opened fire on surrounding troops, triggering a gun battle that is still going on. So far, three militants have been killed," said the defence spokesperson.

"A group of infiltrators coming in a boat tried to enter our territory through Harami Nala, a shallow water channel near pillar number 1175 of the international border at approximately 12.30 am," sources said."The occupants of the boat started firing on the BSF men following which they retaliated," they said.
