July GST collections rise 10.3%, the 3rd highest-ever

GST collections in July rose 10.3 per cent to over Rs 1.82 lakh crore, mainly driven by domestic transactions in goods and services, according to official data released on Thursday. This is the third-highest-ever monthly collection recorded since the indirect tax regime was rolled out 7 years ago on July 1, 2017. According to the data, total refunds stood at Rs 16,283 crore in July.

A moderate intensity earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter Scale hit Andaman Islands on Tuesday, the Meteorological Department said. The epicentre of the quake that struck at approximately 7.09 am at the depth of 10 kilometres was centred at 11.7 degree North latitude and 95.0 degree East longitude in the Andaman Islands region. There were no immediate reports of damage and no tsunami alert had been issued.

At least 21 persons died on Sunday when the tourist boat carrying them capsized in the Bay of Bengal near Port Blair in the Andaman and Nicobar islands, official sources said.
