He said one obstacle in the appointment of Richards as mentor was that he had some media commitments in the ICC World T20. "They are trying to find a solution because the Board is keen Richards should mentor the Pakistan team but he has not agreed to anything as yet," the source said. Richards himself this week expressed interest in any assignment with Pakistan cricket.

Pakistan's former captain Javed Miandad has blasted the national team and made it clear that the current T20 captain Shahid Afridi didn't deserve a place in the side. "How can you have a player who no one knows how he will perform. Afridi's place in the team was over few years back," Miandad told 'Aaj' channel. The Pakistan great added, "How can you expect to win or improve your cricket when a player who stopped being a reliable performer some years ago is still playing in the national team. He is captain." Miandad said that he can only see Pakistan cricket going downwards as the domestic circuit is not producing quality talent since it's full of nepotism and favoritism. "You still have parchi (slip) system in domestic cricket even at district level. It only looks good on surface but in reality it is not producing quality players." Miandad said the board was the one who was responsible for all appointments.

Irked by Wasim Akram questioning PCB's decision to form an inquiry committee on team's disastrous show in Asia Cup, influential board official Shakil Sheikh has threatened to open old files related to legendary fast bowler's alleged involvement in match-fixing. "I don't think Wasim is 'King of Swing'. I think he is 'King of Betting'. He should think before criticizing anyone because his past is known to all and old files in the board can be opened," Sheikh, who is the head of PCB's inquiry committee told Geo Super channel on Monday night. As far as old files are concerned, Sheikh was referring to report submitted by Justice Malik Qayyum on match fixing inquiry at the start of the millennium. Sheikh, who also heads the Islamabad regional cricket association made references to his name (Wasim) being linked to betting in cricket and in the Justice Malik Qayyum match-fixing inquiry.
