Box Office: Commando 3 fares above average

Last week saw three releases: Commando 3, Hotel Mumbai and Yeh Saali Aashiqui.

Commando 3 was the only one to sustain and fare reasonably at the box office.

Hotel Mumbai had released internationally way back in March but it hit the Indian screens only now. The film is on based on 26/11, and its viewership was limited to multiplexes. Its collections have been steady but on the lower side.

Yeh Saali Aashiqui flops.

Vinod Mirani gives us his weekly verdict. 

 

Commando 3

Cast: Vidyut Jamwal, Adah Sharma and Gulshan Devaiah.
Director: Aditya Datt.
What works: Gulshan Davaiah, as the diabolical, megalomaniacal terrorist
What doesn't: Vidyut Jamwal's acting skills.
Number of weeks: New.
Box Office verdict: Above average.

 

Hotel Mumbai

Cast: Dev Patel, Nazanin Boniadi, Anupam Kher, Armie Hammer, Suhail Nayyar, Amardeep Singh.
Director: Anthony Maras.
What works: Riveting.
What doesn't: It's a gripping depiction but it could have been a lot more.
Number of weeks: New.
Box Office verdict: Below Average.

 

Yeh Saali Aashiqui

Cast: Vardhan Puri, Shivaleeka Oberoi.
Director: Cherag Ruparel.
What works: Many twists and turns in the plot.
What doesn't: Too many loopholes in the script.
Number of weeks: New.
Box Office verdict: Flop.

 

Pagalpanti

Cast: Anil Kapoor, John Abraham, Arshad Warsi, Saurabh Shukla, Pulkit Samrat, Kriti Kharbanda, Ileana D'Cruz, Urvashi Rautela.
Director: Anees Bazmee.
What works: Nothing!
What doesn't: Very low standard of comedy.
Number of weeks: 1.
Box Office verdict: Flop.

 

Marjaavaan

Cast: Sidharth Malhotra, Riteish Deshmukh, Tara Sutaria, Rakul Preet Singh.
Director: Milap Zaveri.
What works: Full-on masala movie.
What doesn't: Outdated film-making, stale imagination, hysterically hamming actors.

Box Office verdict: Average.

 

 

Motichoor Chaknachoor

Cast: Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Athiya Shetty.
Director: Debamitra Biswal.
What works: Strong performances.
What doesn't: Tame romance.

Bala

Cast: Ayushmann Khurrana, Yami Gautam and Bhumi Pednekar.
Director: Amar Kaushik.
What works: The cast, the story, the screenplay.
What doesn't: Bhumi Pednekar's tacky make-up.

Box Office verdict: Superhit.

 

Satellite Shankar

Cast: Sooraj Pancholi and Megha Akash.

What works: Megha Akash, the second half of the film.
What doesn't: The first half is slow.

The Bypass Road

What works: Neil Nitin Mukesh's dapper looks.
