Curfew was on Thursday clamped in more areas of Kashmir valley as the Army carried out a flag march in Srinagar to maintain law and order. Sopore town and old parts of Baramulla were placed under curfew as a precautionary measure, official sources said. Curfew was also being enforced strictly in Srinagar, where three persons were killed in alleged firing by security forces on Tuesday. There was no curfew in Baramulla town, Handwara, Shopian, Ganderbal and Budgam.

At least seven persons, including the train driver, were injured when five bogies and the engine of the Kolkata-bound Garibrath Express derailed in the wee hours of Thursday after militants of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland blasted a railway track in Assam's Kokrajhar district. The incident occurred at approximately 2.25 am after militants of the banned group blasted rail tracks at a spot between Gosaigaon and Chowtara in lower Assam, said the police.

Maoists on Thursday attacked a police station and the house of a Congress leader in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district, killing two of his relatives and leaving two others injured, including his son. Armed Naxalites struck at the Kuakonda police station in the district in the wee hours of Thursday. The policemen retaliated by opening fire. According to the police, six Naxals were killed in the attack, but their bodies are yet to be recovered.
