The Delhi government Wednesday informed the high court that the execution of the death row convicts in the Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case will not take place on January 22 as a mercy plea has been filed by one of them. The four convicts -- Vinay Sharma, 26, Mukesh Kumar, 32, Akshay Kumar Singh, 31 and Pawan Gupta, 25 -- were to be hanged on January 22 at 7 am in Tihar jail. A Delhi court had issued their death warrants on January 7.

A Delhi court on Saturday awarded life imprisonment to ex-Army officer S J Choudhary for killing businessman Krishan Sikand in a parcel bomb explosion 26 years ago. Choudhary, 70, was on April 28 found guilty by the court for the murder of Krishan Sikand, who had died in an explosion caused by the parcel bomb delivered at his Sunder Nagar residence here on October 2, 1982.The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Choudhary.
