Nigerian President Mahamadou Issoufi has announced his decision to grant asylum to slain Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi's son Saadi. Issoufi said that Saadi, a bisexual playboy, was granted asylum on 'humanitarian grounds,' adding that it was unlikely he would ever be extradited back to his home country. Issoufi also said that Saadi, three generals and three other Libyans who accompanied him across the border last week were being treated as refugees.

Amidst heightened tensions, India has taken a series of punitive measures against Pakistan, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and downgrading diplomatic ties. Pakistan responded by shutting its airspace to Indian airliners and suspending all trade. Both countries exchanged warnings, with Pakistan emphasizing its commitment to "respond firmly to any aggression."

Saadi Gaddafi, third son of the deposed Libyan leader, has fled the country into neighbouring Niger, leaving his two other brothers to stick by Muammar Gaddafi in his 'self-proclaimed battle to death'. Saadi crossed over from Libya's Saharan desert border in a convoy of vehicles and has been intercepted by local troops, Daily Telegraph quoted Niger's justice minister as saying. Marou Amadou, the justice minister, said Saadi's convoy had reached the northern town of Agadez.
