In a show of solidarity, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Arun Jaitley on Monday met jailed Rajathan MLA Rajendra Rathore, an accused in Dara Singh fake encounter killing case, and said the party would help him fight his legal battle, while accusing Congress of using the Central Bureau of Investigation to serve its political agenda.

The Rajasthan high court on Friday came down heavily on the Central Bureau of Investigation for giving "differential" treatment to the accused in Dara Singh fake encounter killing case in which a Director General of police and a Bharatiya Janata Party member of Legislative Assembly were among those arrested, saying the agency's objectives have been compromised and it was high time it was "shut down".

The Supreme Court on Friday came out strongly against the practice of conversion, while upholding the life sentence for Dara Singh, who was convicted for burning alive Australian missionary Graham Staines and his two minor sons in January 1999. "It is undisputed that there is no justification for interfering in someone's belief by way of use of force, provocation, conversion, incitement or upon a flawed premise that one religion is better than the other," it said.
