Police in Jalna, Maharashtra rescued a woman who was held captive by her parents for two months in their home. The woman, Shahnaz alias Sonal, had an interfaith marriage and was kept chained in the house after her parents disapproved of the marriage. The police acted on a complaint by the woman's husband and rescued her from her parents' house in Alapur village.

A 35-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh allegedly killed a 32-year-old man who had been blackmailing and raping her, police said on Sunday. The woman confessed to the crime after initially misleading police. She said she had been harassed by the man for a long time and decided to kill him after he drugged her and tried to assault her again. The incident occurred on January 29 in Ghur Samsapur village near Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.

Rabiya, who has filed a 40-page complaint petition in the chief judicial magistrate's court, Patna, said Shahnaz tortured her when she was pregnant for the first time.
