The US's recent 50 per cent tariff on Indian exports will have a trickledown effect on India's affordable housing, potentially derailing demand as well as supply in this segment, according to experts. Pointing to worker incomes and jobs in micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that typically make up majority of the customer base of affordable housing, would take a hit in the near terms due to the tariff change, further crippling India's affordable housing sector, already reeling from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sanjay Dutt's decision to contest the next Lok Sabha election from Lucknow has surprised many political experts. Questions have been raised about whether Dutt is eligible to contest the polls, as he had been convicted under the Arms Act and sentenced to six years in jail by the Special Terrorist and Disruptive Activities Act Court in July, 1997.However, Dutt's lawyer Farhana Shah is confident that Dutt will be allowed to contest the LS polls.

Actor Sanjay Dutt was released from Pune's Yeravada jail on Thursday morning. Dutt's lawyer Satish Maneshinde visited Yeravada jail at around 8.30 am with the relevant papers and delivered them to the jail authorities. He was accompanied by Dutt's former secretary Pankaj Kharbanda. The actor was released at approximately 9.50 am and he is likely to take a chartered flight back to Mumbai. Dutt sentenced to six years imprisonment under the Arms Act.
