Hero MotoCorp, India's largest two-wheeler maker, has seen a decline in its market share in rural areas since 2018, losing ground to major competitors such as TVS Motor Company, Bajaj Auto, and Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI), according to data from JATO Dynamics reviewed by Business Standard. Hero's share of rural two-wheeler sales in India has dropped from 40.4 per cent in 2018 to 33.3 per cent in 2023. In contrast, Bajaj's share increased from 12.7 per cent in 2018 to 13.9 per cent, HMSI's from 21.8 per cent to 22.2 per cent, and TVS' from 15.5 per cent to 17.8 per cent. Suzuki Motorcycle India has also seen its share rise from 1.7 per cent to 2.5 per cent.
Sanjiv Puri, chairman and managing director of ITC, is looking to expand the conglomerate's play outside India by taking "strategic positions" in markets close to home in the non-cigarette fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and hospitality businesses. Adani Green Energy (AGEL) on Tuesday announced it has secured a funding of $1.36 billion from a consortium of international banks as part of its construction financing framework. The $1.36-billion senior debt facility will enhance the company's funding pool to $3 billion since initial project financing in March 2021, AGEL said in a statement. According to the statement, AGEL, India's largest and world's leading renewable energy player, announced a follow-on funding of $1.36 billion to further boost its construction financing framework to $3 billion backed by a consortium of renowned international banks.

Coal India Limited's (CIL) October-December quarter of financial year 2023-24 (Q3FY24) results have beaten the Street's estimates. Revenue rose 3 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) to Rs 36,200 crore, led by higher volumes and better realisation from Fuel-Supply Agreement (FSA) coal. The blended average selling price (ASP) was down 6 per cent Y-o-Y to Rs 1,727 per tonne, and the FSA ASP was up 3 per cent Y-o-Y to Rs 1,532 per tonne.
Jalan Kalrock Consortium, the winning bidder for the revival of grounded carrier Jet Airways, on Friday said it has infused an additional Rs 100 crore in the airline as per the court-approved resolution plan. With this, the consortium has "fulfilled" its total financial commitment of Rs 350 crore to revive the airline, which would pave the way for it to take over the ownership of Jey Airways, JKC (Jalan Kalrock Consortium) said in a statement. JKC also said it is expecting the airline to be up and running next year with the launch date likely to be announced in the next few days.

India's industrial production growth decelerated to 5.8 per cent in September from 10.3 per cent in August, though on an annual basis, the output of manufacturing and mining sectors showed an improvement, according to the official data released on Friday. The factory output growth measured in terms of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) had grown by 3.3 per cent in September 2022. During April-September 2023-24, the IIP growth works out to be 6 per cent, down from 7.1 per cent in the corresponding period a year ago.

Adani group companies have reported a 13.7 per cent rise in cash reserve to Rs 45,895 crore in the first half of the current fiscal as earnings across the business rose while debt was almost unchanged. In the half-year credit performance report, Adani said while EBITDA rose to Rs 71,253 crore in April-September this fiscal from Rs 57,219 crore a year back, gross assets increased 6 per cent to about Rs 4.5 lakh crore. Gross debt was almost unchanged at Rs 2.26 lakh crore, but after considering cash reserves, the net debt at Rs 1.80 lakh crore was 3.6 per cent less than Rs 1.87 lakh crore in April-September 2022.

The wholesale price index (WPI) based inflation rate has been in the negative since April and was (-)1.36 per cent in July. In August last year it was 12.48 per cent. Inflation in food articles remained in double digit at 10.60 per cent in August, lower than 14.25 per cent in July.
