A 22-year-old man in Meerut, India, alleges he was tricked into marrying the mother of his intended bride. Religare Enterprises, a financial services firm, has disclosed that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) turned down its application to appoint Rakesh Asthana as its whole-time director in May this year without citing any reasons. During the hearing, CBI said charges against Asthana are serious and the agency was investigating the matter and is likely to add more offences in the FIR.
The case files and documents have been sent to the CVC for scrutiny following the Supreme Court's order directing the vigilance body to inquire against Verma.
It is the first time in last the 10 years that no new CBI chief has been named to succeed an incumbent.
The CBI did not oppose his bail petition.
