A MIG-27 fighter aircraft on a routine sortie crashed in a village in Jodhpur district on Friday, injuring seven persons on the ground. The pilot ejected safely after the crash took place at approximately 8.30 am in Konkani village in Luni, 42 kms from Jodhpur, Defence Public Relation Officer Lieutenant Colonel N N Joshi said. According to Superintendent of Police (Rural) Jodhpur, Sharad Kaviraj, seven persons on the ground were injured in the mishap, one of them seriously.

In the wake of 73 confirmed cases of coronavirus in India so far, the Union health ministry has made functional 52 laboratories for testing samples while 57 labs have been designated for helping in sample collection for Covid-19 to enhance capacity for diagnosis and detection of the disease. "Following the increase in load of screening samples from suspected cases with symptoms and travel history to the affected countries, the department of health research/ICMR has commissioned 52 laboratories for COVID-19 testing in India," an official said.

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday quizzed the wife of Congress legislator Malkhan Singh in connection with the alleged abduction of nurse Bhanwari Devi even as it continued the questioning of sacked Rajasthan Minister Mahipal Maderna, arrested last week in the case. Malkhan's wife Kamala Visnoi was asked to appear for questioning at the circuit house in Jodhpur before the CBI sleuths, sources said. Maderna was arrested on Friday in Jodhpur by the CBI.

With six airports handed over to the Adani group for 50 years, the government is now all set to hand over another 25 airports to private players in a bid to 'monetise' them. Official figures reveal that since 2017-18, the government has spent and will be spending Rs 14,500 crore on significantly revamping infrastructure at most of these airports before handing them over to private players. The Airports Authority of India (AAI), which operates these airports for the government, has spent billions of rupees in building new terminal buildings, runways, reinforcing taxiways, upgrading aircraft landing systems, radars and a host of other heavy duty and capital intensive infrastructure works.
