Asserting that he always favoured cordial relations with neighbouring states, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Wednesday suggested chief minister-level talks in the presence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for a negotiated settlement to the Hogenakkal issue with Tamil Nadu.
While Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa told the state assembly that he would convene an all-party meet in Karnataka on the Hogenakkal issue, Minister for Energy K S Eswarappa, replying to a Congress member, said the project was "illegal."
The petition filed by Yeddyurappa said that on October one, Kumaraswamy son of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda alleged that a Rs 50 crore kickback was involved in awarding the contract for construction of residential quarters for economically-weaker sections in Ejipura in Bangalore to a private construction company Maverick Holdings.
Speaker Ramesh Kumar said the motion of confidence would reach finality on Monday and it would not be prolonged further under any circumstances, to which the government agreed.

The Karnataka government on Thursday ordered a probe by the elite Corps of Detectives into the series of attacks on Christian prayer halls in the state, saying it wanted an "impartial inquiry" into the communal violence. "The government wants to ensure an impartial inquiry into the incidents of communal violence in the state and book the culprits," Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa told reporters after a Cabinet meeting.

The decision was taken by the Cabinet following a recommendation to this effect by Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur. The Governor had sent his report to the Cabinet soon after Yeddyurappa resigned from the post of chief minister, as he lacked the requisite numbers on the floor of the House.
Governor Rameshwar Thakur accepted the resignation of B S Yediyurappa and asked him to continue in office till alternate arrangements are made.
