At least 26 passengers, including ten women, were killed when a bus carrying a marriage party plunged into a pond in Kamrup district of Assam, the police said on Tuesday. The bus, carrying nearly 40 passengers from Guwahati to Dihu in Rangia sub-division of the district, fell into the 40 feet deep pond on Monday night when a wooden bridge it was crossing gave in. The accident occurred at Rajabari on Hajo-Guwahati road. Among the victims were the bridegroom Naba Kumar Sarma.

A civilian was killed in the crossfire between the police and two militants of the United Liberation Front of Asom at Sualkuchi in Kamrup district of Assam.The slain civilian was identified as Maniram Rabha, a rickshaw puller.
