A court in Indore has sentenced three workers of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India to one-year rigorous imprisonment for attempting to create communal hatred.First Class Judicial Magistrate Neelesh Yadav on Wednesday convicted Parvez (32), Sajid Pasha(38) and Imran(30), all residents of Nayapura in the city.According to the prosecution, the accused were running SIMI activities from Nayapura area and literature aimed at creating communal hatred.

The Supreme Court on Thursday further extended the ban on the Students Islamic Movement of India till the second week of October.Justice Geeta Mittal of the Delhi High Court had lifted the ban on August 5 on the grounds that the evidence against the outfit was too weak to justify the extension of ban under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for allegedly indulging in terrorist and anti-national activities.The apex court had, however, stayed the operation of the order.

Thirteen top leaders of the banned Student's Islamic Movement of India, who were arrested in Indore, had come to the city to finalise the training programme of its cadres, the police said on Friday. The leaders had been residing in Indore for over a month, a police official said, adding that the police have recovered news clippings from them relating to the Mumbai train blasts. The police was now trying to expose their local network.
