Air India is aiming to improve its financials by pruning loss-making flights, improving fleet use, increasing web sales and selling & leasing back 14 Boeing 787s by March-end, top airline executives said on Monday.
The long-range planes will be delivered from early 2014.
Boeing is also exploring the possibility of manufacturing aircraft components and assembling the jets in India.

Six global defence majors, including US giants Lockheed Martin and Boeing, and European consortium EADS, today offered to invest an estimated $2 billion to $3 billion to revitalise India's defence and aerospace industry.Under the proposals, which came days after New Delhi unveiled a new investment-friendly weapons procurement policy, the companies offered to pump in more investments, create defence exports and set up weapon-related joint ventures.

Indian aviation regulator DGCA has barred 90 SpiceJet pilots from operating the Boeing 737 Max aircraft after finding them not properly trained. "For the moment, we have barred these pilots from flying the Max and they have to retrain successfully for flying the aircraft," DGCA chief Arun Kumar said in a statement. He also said that the regulator will take "strict action against those found responsible for the lapse."
