A police station in Rajasthan's Alwar district was allegedly attacked by a mob late Wednesday over the detention of two youths, an official said.
Four police personnel including the station house officer (SHO) were injured after Govindgarh police station came under attack, with the mob allegedly pelting stones at the premises, Additional Superintendent of Police Priyanka Raghuvanshi said on Thursday.
She said a case has been registered in this connection, and 18 people have been detained for questioning.
Incident Triggered By Reckless Driving
The incident was triggered after locals reported two youths riding a motorcycle and allegedly performing stunts in Govindgarh area. An assistant sub-inspector reached the spot and stopped the youths, after which an argument broke out.
Subsequently, the duo was brought to the police station.
Mob Violence Escalates
Soon after, around 100 people allegedly gathered outside the station and started pelting stones, Raghuvanshi said.
During the attack, the mob allegedly damaged police vehicles and pelted stones at the police station, injuring four police personnel including SHO Dharam Singh Gurjar.
A purported video of the incident circulating on social media showed the injured SHO asking personnel to bring weapons and fire in the air amid a barrage of stones flung by the mob.
The senior officer said the detainees are being questioned, and further investigation is underway.
