A man allegedly killed his pregnant wife and two young daughters by pushing them into a swimming pool in Hanumakonda district, police said on Thursday.

The incident occurred in Inavolu mandal on Wednesday night. Family members of the deceased filed a complaint accusing the man of the murders.

A senior police official said a murder case has been registered, and the motives are under investigation.

The swimming pool, located on the premises of a real estate venture, is owned by the accused.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the 26-year-old woman and her daughters, aged five and seven, were taken to the pool by the accused.

He allegedly pushed his wife first, followed by the children, causing them to drown.

Police said the accused also disconnected the CCTV cameras and later told family members the deaths were "accidental".

"The man stated that his wife was nine weeks pregnant. The reasons for the murders are being ascertained," the official said.

Family members alleged that the husband and in-laws were unhappy because the woman had previously given birth to daughters and had favoured terminating her current pregnancy.

The woman's father said the couple had a love marriage, but had differences after she became pregnant again.

The deceased woman's husband's brother, however, denied any wrongdoing and said the couple had been leading a happy life for the past 10 years.
