Jewellery worth about ₹1.75 crore has been stolen from a Jain temple in central Mumbai's Lalbag area, police said.

The theft at the temple managed by the Avighna State Munisurat Swami Shwetambar Murtipujak Jain Sangh Trust came to light on Monday morning, said an official of Kalachowkie police station.

 

The lock of the temple had been broken. Gold jewellery worth ₹1.5 crore and a diamond jewellery piece valued at ₹25 lakh were found to be missing, the official said.

A suspect has been identified from CCTV footage and was likely to be arrested soon, he added.
