On Wednesday, July 29, the Union Cabinet approved the new National Education Policy.
The NEP is set to usher in many, many, changes with the stated vision of creating an education system that contributes directly to transforming the country, providing high-quality education to all, and makes India a global knowledge superpower.
The NEP promises that teacher vacancies will be filled at the earliest, especially in disadvantaged areas and areas with large pupil-to-teacher ratios or high rates of illiteracy.
Dominic Xavier says there is an urgent need to implement the NEP and quickly reduce the gap in the pupil-teacher ratio.
