A couple died after their motorcycle collided with a speeding container truck in Uttar Pradesh's Pilibhit on Thursday evening, police said.
The deceased were identified as Prem Kumar alias Nanhe (35) and his wife Laungshri (30), residents of the Deoria Kotwali area.
According to the police, the couple had gone to Pipariya Dulai village and were returning home on their motorcycle around 5 pm.
As they reached the main highway from a village road, a speeding container truck coming from the Khutar side rammed into their motorcycle, killing both of them on the spot, eyewitnesses said.
The truck driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene, Puranpur Kotwali in-charge Pawan Pandey said, adding that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem to the district headquarters.
Police have seized the damaged vehicles and launched a search to trace the absconding driver, he added.
