Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday filed her nomination papers for the party president's post, election for which, if necessary, will take place on June 9.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil were present when
Gandhi filed her papers at the party headquarters in New Delhi.
Three set of papers proposing Gandhi's name were filed before Union minister Oscar Fernandes, the party's central election authority.
May 27 is the last date for filing nomination papers and June 3 is the last date for withdrawals.
