Speaker Somnath Chatterjee [Images], who has so far maintained silence about his expulsion from the Communist Party of India Marxist, is planning to write a letter to party General Secretary Prakash Karat [Images], according to sources.

Chatterjee reportedly told his close aides that he would write a letter to Karat and seek an explanation for his expulsion.

The CPI-M had expelled Chatterjee on Wednesday for refusing to resign as the Speaker, after the Left Front withdrew its support from the United Progressive Alliance government.

Chatterjee had also expressed his displeasure over the Left Front voting against the government along with the Bharatiya Janata Party.
