In yet another snap of nerves a paramilitary central reserve police force trooper went berserk at the heavily guarded residence of Jammu and Kashmir [Images] chief minister and shot dead three of his colleagues in winter capital Jammu late on Monday evening.

A senior police officer told rediff.com on phone that CRPF constable Anand Kumar Singh had an altercation with his colleagues on guard duty at the official residence of the state chief minister Ghulam [Images] Nabi Azad late Monday evening.

"The irate trooper sprayed bullets at his colleagues killing a company commander and two head constables," said the officer.

The unprovoked shooting caused commotion at the chief ministers residence and senior police and paramilitary officers including the director general of police Gopal Sharma reached the spot.

Other CRPF soldiers immediately took positions and the irate trooper was overpowered and arrested.

Chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad was present at his official residence when the shooting took place. The officials have now ordered a security revamp at the chief ministers residence. It took sometime for the tension to diffuse.

There have been instances when the deployed troops have gone berserk and shot officers and colleagues. Senior officers here say that the continued deployment in hostile areas often leads to nervous breakdowns which leads to such incidents.
