55 dead in train mishap near Nagpur

With two more deaths, the toll in the train collision between Nagpur-bound Ramtek local train and a tractor-trolley near Kanhan has gone up to 55, police said on Friday.

Mostly of the dead were either women or children and they were returning from a marriage party, when the mishap occurred at an unmanned crossing between Kanhan and Dongri Khurd about 30 km from Nagpur.

There were at least 65 to 70 persons on the tractor-trolley, he said, adding that the deceased included 30 women and 18 children.

However, none of the passengers of the local train, including the driver or the assistant driver, were hurt in the mishap.

Twenty-two people were injured and were admitted to Mayo Hospital in Ramtek and a private hospital in Kamptee, the police added.
