Nutan's husband charred to death

August 04, 2004 15:14 IST

The husband of Nutan, a well-known film star of yesteryears, was killed in a fire that broke out on the 31st storey of a building in Colaba in south Mumbai, police said on Wednesday.

Rajneesh Behl's body was found in a badly charred condition almost four hours after the fire broke out on the top floor of the Sagar-Sangeet building late on Tuesday night.

Power supply was disconnected, over ten fire tenders and high-speed elevators had been pressed into service to contain the fire, fire brigade sources said.

The fire brigade personnel got residents of the building to evacuate it but did not realise that Behl was inside the top floor flat in which the fire had erupted. They found the body after the fire fighting operation concluded at around 4am.

His son actor Mohnish Behl was away on a shooting and arrived later in the night, police said

The body has been sent for post-mortem. The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
