Alert: Post graduate courses in brain research

National Brain Research Centre

The National Brain Research Centre, which is deemed a university and is an autonomous institute of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, is a premier institute whose objective is to pursue research in frontier areas of neuroscience and to understand brain function in health and disease.

Research areas include Developmental Neuroscience, Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience, Systems and Cognitive Neuroscience and Computational and Theoretical Neuroscience.

Admissions are open to the following courses:

PhD in Neuroscience

Eligibility: Master's degree in any branch of science related to the general area of Neurosciences/ Brain Research with consistent good academic record. Candidates from diverse backgrounds that includes, but is not limited to, various disciplines of Biological Sciences, Physical, Mathematical, Computer Sciences and Psychology or MBBS/BE/BTech/ ME/MTech/MPharma or equivalent with consistent good academic record will be considered.

Candidates who are awaiting results of their final year examination are eligible to apply.

Candidates who have already passed the CSIR/UGC/GATE/ICMR examinations are particularly encouraged to apply.

MSc in Neuroscience

Eligibility: A Bachelor's degree in any branch of science or in any subject related to the general area of Neurosciences (eg psychology) or MBBS/BE/BTech degree.

PhD course work will be waived for NBRC MSc (Neuroscience) graduates who join the PhD programme.

Post Doctoral Fellowships

A PhD in any branch of science or in any subject related to the general area of Neurosciences (eg Psychology).

Application forms and information brochures are available with the Administrative Officer and can be collected in person or obtained through post by sending a demand draft of Rs 50 in favour of Director, NBRC, payable at Manesar. Application forms can also be downloaded from the NBRC web site www.nbrc.ac.in

Completed application forms along with the photocopies of all qualification/ experience certificates, two recent signed passport size photographs (one affixed) and a demand draft of Rs 500 in favour of Director, NBRC payable at Manesar may be sent to:

Last date for applying for any of these courses is April 30, 2004

Short-listed candidates will be required to appear for an interview to be held in May. Candidates will be given second-class train fare to the nearest station.

Selected candidates will be eligible for scholarships:

PhD

Rs 8,000 consolidated per month

MSc

Rs 1,000 consolidated per month

Post-Doctoral fellowships

Rs 10,500 consolidated per month

Hostel: Selected candidates will be provided hostel accommodation.
