After their first loss to the Delhi Giants, the Mumbai Champs team management introduced a bold change in their batting order by promoting a young 20-year-old right hand batsman.

The youngster from Maharashtra, all of 5 feet 2 inches, Raviraj Patil took centre stage in the match against the Kolkata Tigers on Tuesday, when his team lost their international opener Saman Jayantha in the first over.

Patil grabbed the opportunity with both hands to play a swashbuckling knock of 52. He hit some cracking shots on both sides of the wicket against the likes of Nantie Hayward, Andre Adams, Craig McMillan and Lance Klusener. The fall of Patil's wicket saw Mumbai Champs collapse and eventually end up losing by two runs in a close finish.

But the dynamite Patil had marked his arrival on the international level Indian Cricket League platform.

It was a similar scenario on Tuesday when the Mumbai Champs took on Ahmedabad Rockets.

The Champs were facing the heat from the fans and experts for their lacklustre performance in the previous matches. Once again, it was left to the young stocky Patil, to take the battle to a bowling attack which, included in its arsenal international stalwarts of the likes of Jason Gillespie and Heath Streak.

Wickets were tumbling at the other end, but Patil played another blazing knock reminiscent of some of the brilliant innings played by another great Mumbaikar, at the international level for India. He finished unbeaten on 66 from just 46 deliveries, that included six boundaries and three sixes as the Champs survived a close finish this time.

A straight drive at a crucial stage of the quick Rakesh Patel was reminiscent of the vintage "Sachin Tendulkar straight drive" that has mesmerized cricket fans across the cricketing world.

Showing great temperament in a big match situation the young Patil marked his arrival with two back to back half-centuries at the competitive Edelweiss 20s Challenge.
