"It's surprising because we have always played on such pitches in Pakistan and have won matches. Our bowlers were just not able to get the ball to reverse swing."

He said it was always difficult for a team to come back after losing the first game of a three-Test series. "The Indians have now gained a big advantage. The first Test was crucial."

India amassed 675 for five in their first innings and then bowled out Pakistan for 407 and 216.

Matches between India and Pakistan are always emotionally charged, with intense pressure on players because of expectation from hundreds of millions of fans in both countries.

"I can understand the dejection of our people on the way we lost this Test," Inzamam said. "We'll try to come back and do better in the next two matches."
