The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has said that while certain documents and furniture have been burnt in a fire at its Mumbai office, there is no impediment to probes or trials as files are also stored digitally. The fire broke out on Sunday at the mezzanine floor of the ED's Mumbai Zonal Office-I, located in the Kaiser-I-Hind building. The agency said that the fire was caused by a short circuit and that the office is now operational from a different location. The ED is also in the process of establishing a standalone office space in Mumbai.

The gross leasing or absorption of office space stood at 745.6 lakh square feet in the preceding year, data from real estate consultant Cushman & Wakefield (C&W) showed.

Net leasing of office space is likely to rise by 41-49 per cent across seven major cities this year on a lower base and improved demand post-pandemic, according to JLL India. Net absorption or leasing of office space stood at 26.2 million square feet in 2021, and it is likely to be in the range of 37-39 million square feet this year across seven cities -- Bengaluru, Delhi NCR, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune. Nevertheless, the net office leasing will remain lower than the record absorption achieved in 2019 -- the pre-COVID year -- at 47.9 million square feet.

The net absorption of office space fell 19 per cent to 9.63 million sq ft in the first six months of this year, the property consultant said. The seven cities tracked by JLL India are -- Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Chennai.

Indian real estate sector saw more land deals in 2024 at over 2,200 acres as developers were looking to expand the business, according to CBRE.
