In a major joint offensive, separate joint teams of security forces, comprising over 2,000 personnel, had launched an anti-Naxal operation from Bijapur and Sukma districts in the South Bastar forests, considered as the Maoist stronghold, on Friday night.

A senior police officer said troops of counter insurgency Rashtriya Rifles and police jointly surrounded a forest area near Lolab in frontier Kupwara district early on Thursday.
"If we (the Kashmiris) don't talk about it (dialogue), who will? Not a Bihari, not a Punjabi," she said.
The field intelligence units of the Army coupled with inputs comprising HUMINT (human intelligence) and TECHINT (technical intelligence) indicate that around 300 terrorists, mainly of the banned Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT), are waiting across the border to sneak in, officials said, citing reports from Srinagar collated in the national capital.
"The search operation was launched on specific information about presence of a group of militants inside a house in the village," the officer said.

One terrorist was also killed in the gunfight.
Two militants of Hizbul Mujaheedin outfit were killed in over 30-hour-long fierce gunfight in south Kashmir Shopian district on Wednesday evening.
Central Reserve Police Force and police personnel moved to search the vehicle and came under fire of the terrorists hiding in the truck. They retaliated resulting in an encounter.
The identities and affiliation of the terrorists were yet to be known. Arms and ammunition had been recovered from the site.
