Raju, the country's last dancing bear, was rescued from Belgaum in Karnataka and brought to the Bannerghatta bear sanctuary. Raju, which danced and smoked to entertain millions on the streets, is cooling its heels in the bear sanctuary after being rescued from a Kalandar. (See the external link). Wildlife SOS, which has been undertaking this countrywide rescue operation, has a centre in Bangalore.
