A free bicycle scheme, transfer of officials, distribution of ration cards and development of airports at Gulbarga and Shimoga -- all these decisions were taken in the absence of its coalition partner, the Janata Dal-Secular.
Yeddyurappa, however, will miss his wife Maithra Devi, who was a pillar of strength during his early days when he had to struggle a lot.
Yeddyurappa, who could not stop smiling while the ceremony, said he swore upon God and the farmers' community in Karnataka that he will govern the state to the best of his ability.
He will be the first BJP chief minister in South India. Karnataka will however have to wait another week until the government becomes entirely functional, as the rest of the ministers in the cabinet are expected to take oath only a week later.
Whether this will be the first of many inroads the BJP will make in south India, or whether it will be a flash in the pan, will depend on how Yedduyrappa handles the post of chief minister... and the tricky task of dealing with Deve Gowda's fickle clan.

The BJP had earlier demanded that the elections should be held by February 2008. However, the election was delayed as the voters' list in the state had to be revised. The state BJP has said that it will explore all means, including legal ones, to ensure that polls in Karnataka are not delayed beyond May 2008.

Not only does the JDS want the BJP to adhere to the conditions, but also wants it to sign on a stamp paper in which the conditions are listed. Besides this, the JDS also wants a written assurance from the BJP on its letter head stating that it would abide by all the conditions.
A crucial meeting of the Janata Dal-Secular legislature party is scheduled to commence at 0900 hours where a final call will be taken whether to support the BJP or not. JDS supreme H D Deve Gowda has been authorised by his party to take the final decision.
When B S Yeddyurappa was sworn in as chief minister of the state, barely a week back, everyone in Karnataka heaved a sigh of relief thinking that the worst political crisis had finally come to an end. However that does not seem to be the case.
The 12 conditions had been drawn up by JD-S supremo H D Deve Gowda and given to BJP president Rajnath Singh while negotiations for the coalition were going on. Gowda had made it clear that his party will support the BJP in government formation only if all these conditions are fulfilled.
JD-S supremo, H D Deve Gowda's thoughts on the IT sector being unnecessarily pampered is no secret. Yeddyurappa while trying to strike a balance between both the IT and farming sector will have to tread carefully. However looking at Yeddyurappa's performance under H D Kumaraswamy, it is clear that the tilt would be more towards the farming sector. For the IT sector, there is unlikely to be major sops announced. But infrastructure may get a boost.
"Development of the state will top my priority list. It is never easy running a coalition. Keeping the partners happy and working in tandem along with them will be challenging. But I am sure I can handle it," says Yeddyurappa.
Congress leaders KC Venugopal and Randeep Surjewala alleged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah were involved in attempts to topple the JD-S-Congress government in Karnataka.
The Congress-Janata Dal-Secular coalition faces the threat of losing its majority in the assembly if the resignations are accepted as its current tally is 116 in the 224 member House.

State BJP chief B S Yeddyurappa said the people of north-east in general and Tripura in particular have rejected the "corrupt and divisive" politics, practised by the Congress and the Communist Party of India-Marxist.
"This is not the appropriate time to be going ahead with political programmes., However, what really shocked us was as at this point in time when the nation is looking towards its leadership, when the nation wants its leadership to speak to it, the prime minister chooses to address the booth workers of the BJP rather than address the nation," said the Congress.
The Congress, in its application termed the governor's action as a "brazen unconstitutional" act to appoint "a junior MLA as the pro tem speaker.
Kumaraswamy made the stunning claim that the BJP offered the MLAs of his party Rs 100 crore and ministerial berths.
