Mercury rises in Mumbai after brief cold spell

A day after it recorded the season's lowest temperature, Mumbai enjoyed a relatively warmer weather on Monday with the mercury rising by almost 2 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department's Santacruz station in the suburbs recorded a minimum temperature of 12.1 degrees Celsius against Sunday's minimum of 10.2 degrees Celsius, the lowest in over four decades. Mumbai, known for its hot and humid weather, has been witnessing lower than usual temperatures.

Heavy rains lashed Mumbai throughout Monday night and Tuesday morning, bringing traffic to a virtual standstill in many parts of the city.Chembur, Ghatkopar and Vikhroli were the worst affected areas. Many areas in western suburbs and South Mumbai witnessed serpentine traffic jams and waterlogging.While the trains on the western line were reportedly running smoothly, trains on the Central and Harbour line were delayed by over 20 minutes.
