Braving inclement weather, Army aviation pilots on Monday airlifted the five injured soldiers from Macchil to Srinagar for specialised treatment. Unfortunately, all five brave hearts attained martyrdom, an army official said.
Search operations were on in the area.
An Army official said the JCO and two other rank soldiers were on a routine patrol in Macchil sector when the trio slipped into the gorge on Tuesday.
Two militants were killed on Wednesday in an encounter with security forces near the Line of Control in Macchil sector of Kashmir Valley.

The army on Monday foiled an infiltration bid by militants along the Line of Control in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, killing one ultra.
"In an encounter close to the Line of Control this evening, one solider was martyred and one terrorist was killed. The terrorists mutilated the body of the jawan before fleeing back into Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir under the cover of firing by Pakistan Army," an army spokesman said.
