A Delhi court on Wednesday awarded a four-year jail term to ex-Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Darda, his son Devender Darda, and businessman Manoj Kumar Jayaswal in a case related to irregularities in the allocation of a coal block in Chhattisgarh.
A Delhi court on Monday awarded three-year jail term to former coal secretary H C Gupta in a coal scam case related to irregularities in the allocation of a coal block in Maharashtra, a lawyer associated with the case said.
The court will pronounce the order on quantum of sentence on May 22.
The Central Bureua of Investigation sought a maximum of seven years imprisonment for the five convicted persons and imposition of heavy fine on the private firm.
Ex-coal secy HC Gupta and other officials were later granted statutory bail as the jail term was below four years.
The court fixed the matter for July 28 for order on cognisance.
Former coal secretary and four others, including two serving government officials, were on Friday granted bail by a special court in connection with a coal blocks allocation scam case.
Five others, including one retired and another serving public servant -- K S Kropha and K C Samria -- were held guilty for various offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act and Indian Penal Code.
The agency said files of the case were sent to competent authority.
The court noted that Gupta made 'dishonest misrepresentation' before the then prime minister.
Former coal secretary H C Gupta and six others were on Tuesday granted bail by a special court New Delhi in connection with a case related to alleged irregularities in the allocation of a Chhattisgarh-based coal block to SKS Ispat and Power Ltd. All the seven accused persons were granted the bail on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh and one surety of a like amount.
