Cricket South Africa (CSA) said on Saturday they have charged former batsman Alviro Petersen with match fixing following a lengthy and ongoing investigation. Petersen, 35, captain of Highveld Lions, has been charged with multiple breaches of CSA's anti-corruption code.

Former South Africa opener Alviro Petersen has rejected a Cricket South Africa (CSA) charge that he fixed matches in the national Twenty20 franchise championship last season. Petersen's lawyer Robin Twaddle confirmed the news and said that his client rejects a plea bargain as he regards the charges as heavy-handed, and would instead welcome a tribunal.

Former South Africa batsman Alviro Petersen has been banned from cricket for two years after admitting sitting in on meetings where plans were hatched to fix matches in the domestic Twenty20 competition. Petersen was the latest player to be banned in the scandal after sentences handed down to alleged instigator Gulam Bodi (20-year ban), and players Thami Tsolekile (12), Pumelela Matshikwe (10), Ethy Mbhalati (10) and Jean Symes (7), Cricket South Africa (CSA) said on Wednesday.

Former Proteas opener Alviro Petersen revealed that he was approached to 'fix matches' in the Ram Slam T20 Challenge, South Africa's domestic T20 tournament. Replying to reports which stated he was under investigation for fixing, Petersen revealed that he reported the matter to Tony Irish, South African Cricketers' Association's CEO and Louis Cole from the Anti-Corruption Security Unit three days after he was made aware of the fixing scandal, adhering to the Anti-Corruption code. Petersen was a teammate of Ghulam Bodi (Highveld Lions), who has been suspended for match-fixing. "I have seen some media reports about the match-fixing scandal and my name was thrown around... herewith some facts about Bodigate," Petersen posted on his Twitter account.
