The proposed changes, as per the draft, could continue some of the existing conflict between wildlife protection regulations with the implementation of Forest Rights Act, 2006, which gives rights to tribals in all kinds of traditional forest lands -- including the wildlife zones, such as national parks. The new proposed law, just as the original one from 1972, does not explicitly recognise these rights in all wildlife areas.

Six volunteers of the World Wide Fund for Nature were abducted by unidentified militants from a thickly-forested area close to India-Bhutan border in Assam on Sunday evening.The volunteers were working in a tiger monitoring project in Ripu-Chirang Wildlife Sanctuary near Bhutan border to the west of Manas Tiger Reserve in Assam. They were abducted from a place called Ultapani.The security forces have launched a search operation to trace the abducted volunteers.

A tiger which was seriously injured by poachers, died at Valmikinagar Tiger Reserve in Bihar's East Champaran district. A team of forest officials were informed by local villagers that a tiger was seriously injured in a trap laid by poachers. The tiger later died from its injuries. The tiger population is decreasing at an alarming rate in the Valmiki National Park, Bihar's only tiger project.
