Once operational, it would go a long way to ease the air traffic congestion over the Delhi airspace. The two airports, as per the recommendations of the respective state governments, would be developed by the state-owned AAI and not privatised.

Employees of Airport Authority of India began a "non-cooperation" drive across the country at the stroke of midnight opposing the closure of existing airports in Bangalore and Hyderabad. There has been no disruption in services so far. The domestic or international flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai Hyderabad and Kolkata airports were on schedule. However, baggage services were affected in some airports.

Anil Ambani Group company Reliance Energy, top conglomerate Tatas and engineering giant L&T are among the shorlisted bidders for upgradation of Amritsar and Udaipur airports, financial bids for which will be invited by month-end. Airport Authority of India (AAI) had shortlisted five bidders each for the two airports. AAI will invite the request for proposals by month end and the outcome of this will be known possibly by middle of June. Fraport and Lanco are also shortlisted.

Kingfisher Airlines is launching its flight operations in Jammu from November 25 while GoAir has announced doubling its flight operations, also by the end of this month. British Airports Authority is considering raising the landing charges, thereby making air travel from India to London expensive from next year. The hike will be to meet the cost of expensive upgrades at airports. The BAA owns and operates seven British airports, including Heathrow.
