Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday night met President A P J Abdul Kalam fuelling speculation that he could have discussed the situation in Uttar Pradesh in the wake of the Supreme Court's disqualifying 13 rebel Bahujan Samaj Party legislators who had supported the Mulayam Singh Yadav government.
The meeting between Dr Singh and Kalam came ahead of the Congress Working Committee session, which discussed the situation in UP.
After the CWC meeting, senior Congress leader Janardhan Dwivedi told reporters that there was consensus that the situation in UP was serious and people were "apprehensive." He said after the Supreme Court judgment, the Mulayam Singh government had lost the "moral right" to remain in power.
Political circles in Delhi speculated whether Dr Singh could have discussed with Kalam the imposition of President's Rule in UP.
