The Pakistan embassy in Kabul was closed on Tuesday after a mob ransacked it.

The mission would remain closed till the Afghan government apologised, compensated for the damage and beefed up security,

Pakistan Ambassador Rustam Shah Mohammad said at a press conference in Kabul.

In Islamabad, the Afghan charge d'Affaires was summoned to the foreign office and told that the attack was a 'deliberate' failure on the part of the Afghan force.

Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri said he spoke to his Afghan counterpart Rahim Sherzoi over phone and told him that incidents like these were 'unhelpful' to the efforts of both the governments to have a model relationship.

"It is unfortunate that this happened. Minister Sherzoi expressed deep regrets and apologies and assured me that action would be taken against those who perpetrated this attack," Kasuri said in Islamabad.

He said Pakistan attached great importance to its relations with Afghanistan.
