A 41-year-old inmate lodged in Mandoli jail was allegedly stabbed by fellow prisoners, police said on Thursday.
The police received information regarding the admission of an injured inmate at GTB Hospital from the jail premises in northeast Delhi's Harsh Vihar on Tuesday, they said.
Investigation Launched into Mandoli Jail Stabbing
During the inquiry, it was found that the injured inmate, Javed, was lodged in Mandoli jail in connection with an NDPS case registered at Seemapuri police station, a senior police officer said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Javed was allegedly assaulted by other inmates inside the jail premises, the police said.
Details of the Assault and Legal Action
He sustained stab injuries in the incident and was taken to GTB Hospital for treatment. After receiving medical care, he was discharged from the hospital, the officer said.
A case under section 118(1) (voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous weapons or means) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered at Harsh Vihar police station, the police said.
Efforts to Identify Assailants and Motives
The police are trying to ascertain the circumstances that led to the assault and identify the inmates involved in the attack, the officer added.
