Alleging that the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government had 'manipulated' the Central Bureau of Investigation to enable the accused in the Bofors case to get an acquittal on technical grounds, the Janata Dal-United on Wednesday said the CBI would do a service to the nation by appealing against the judgements.
"Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary Arun Jaitley has, in a comprehensive statement, shown how the government of the day has manipulated the CBI and got acquittal for those accused on technical grounds," JD-U president George Fernandes said in a statement in New Delhi.
"Over these many years, the Congress has manipulated our legal processes and created judicial obstacles to save the accused in the Bofors case and succeeded in the process," Fernandes said.
"If the CBI has done a thorough and honest job on this case, it is duty-bound to take it to its logical end by appealing against the judgement," Fernandes said.
