The detention of an Indian, after being tested positive for HIV, has again raised the issue of granting visa without medical clearance.

Vadla G, a 38-year-old visitor from Andhra Pradesh, was diagnosed positive for HIV and tuberculosis, and is being held in an isolation ward in a Sharjah hospital.

He told a local newspaper that he had paid Rs 75,000 to an agent to obtain the visa in October.

He was brought to the hospital when he was found at the airport shivering and crying, according to Khaleej Times.

The paper had earlier reported about a bogus visa racket in Andhra Pradesh following which the Indian mission in the UAE had report the issue to the state government.

Charity associations have urged the mission to help in the repatriation of Vadla as soon as possible.
