A 25-year-old Indian worker in Dubai was crushed to death when a large bundle of thick steel cables accidentally fell on him from a crane at a construction site.

Najhu Babu, a newlywed from Andhra Pradesh, was cleaning up waste on a Jumeirah Beach Residence construction site on Monday when he came under the cables being unloaded by the crane.

"We were up working on one building when we heard others screaming and shouting for help. By the time we came down, we saw him dead under the steel. Then police came and took his body," the Gulf News quoted a co-worker of the victim as saying.

An accident investigator said it is too early to say how and why the crane released its load. However, he said initial reports indicated 'some responsibility appears to lie with the company'.
